Seamless First Floor Transformation
Before After

The new kitchen cabinet package anchored the whole design, defining the layout, storage, and style. We incorporated Homecrest Cabinetry Bealey full-overlay door style in rich gloss black paired with gold hardware, which makes the space feel bold without trying too hard. The wall cabinet heights were raised to 36” with crown molding, maximizing every inch of vertical space. Glass front upper cabinets with in-cabinet lighting add visual lightness while keeping the palette grounded.
The island is a true centerpiece of the kitchen design, serving as a style focal point and a hub of the open plan layout. It is finished with Silestone’s Eternal Calacatta Gold waterfall countertop edges on both sides. The island includes seating on one side, with a work space on the other side featuring a Blanco Diamond sink in Anthracite and a Delta Intrinsic matte black faucet.
The design and selection process was a truly collaborative effort. We worked closely with the homeowner and her daughter on selecting every product and finish. Our design team suggested the vertical stack subway tile that brings a mid-century modern sensibility to this classic material. The mixed metallic finishes, featuring matte black plumbing, black iron pendant lighting, a stainless canopy hood, and gold cabinet hardware, feel intentional and timeless rather than trend chasing.
The result is a design that is both modern and classic. It creates a first floor design that looks like it was always meant to be an open, connected space – because now it is.
Designed for Gathering
Some kitchen designs need a refresh, but this one needed a complete rethink. This first floor transformation started out by addressing a kitchen that was working against itself, a broken work triangle, blocked sightlines to the family room, and inadequate storage. The first floor also included a disjointed patchwork of flooring materials and varied ceiling heights that made each space feel like its own island.
The goal for this kitchen remodel was to, literally, tear down walls and create a seamless first floor design that finally flowed. Our team had to first determine how to expand the kitchen footprint into the adjacent space while accounting for the flow into a large existing addition. By reimagining the first floor layout, we were able to create a fully functional and integrated space spanning from the dining room in the front of the house to the existing addition in the back of the house.
Our client wanted an interconnected first floor with a kitchen that is truly the heart of the home. They also wanted the kitchen layout to revolve around one large island, so our key direction was to make this happen while achieving their other design and space planning goals. We included changes to make the ceiling height variations less noticeable, instead making it a feature of the layout that helped the spaces feel more connected. The design also included a single flooring material that unites the spaces visually.
