The key goal for this kitchen remodel was to reimagine the layout to improve flow and storage, while creating a modern kitchen design with a clear focal point. To better utilize the home’s space and leave room for a true focal point with impact, we removed the large corner pantry. It was inhibiting the space, and was a major obstacle in creating a final design that matched the client’s goals and vision for their home.
Our client brought a refined sense of style to every conversation — her instinct for proportion and scale meant she understood immediately why the hood needed room to breathe, and she trusted Derek’s design to deliver exactly that impact. She wanted a unified space that flowed together, while allowing key pieces to stand out and showcase the room’s elegant style. We chose the striking range hood as the focal point, framing it with black and gold wall sconces that further draw the eye to the heart of this design.
Modern Kitchen Layout Redesign
The homeowner wanted a large island where family and friends could gather casually, while also creating a striking centerpiece for the kitchen’s layout. The new layout also allowed space for a custom china cabinet with glass front cabinets and in-cabinet lighting, perfect for displaying special items.
Her collaborative spirit shined throughout the selections process — no detail was too small. From the choice of cabinetry hardware to the careful transition of the full-height backsplash from one wall to the next, she engaged with every decision with the same enthusiasm she brought to the big-picture design.
We removed a post and the knee wall from the original kitchen design that divided the kitchen from the family room, improving traffic flow and creating a truly connected space designed for living. Our team also replaced the patio door and sink window, and relocated a second-floor plumbing drain to accommodate the new cabinetry layout. The result is a space that better utilizes every inch — and fully reflects the homeowner’s vision for how they wanted to live.
